Brief History of Spiritual Care Support Ministries SM
In 1985 as Liz Danielsen spent days and nights with her terminally ill mother at the hospital, she began to see for the first time the need for a different kind of support for the sick and the dying. Patients cried in the night wanting someone to pray with them, someone to hold their hand, someone to care. After her mother died, Liz became a Hospice Volunteer, then a Hospice Volunteer Coordinator, worked as a hospital chaplain, and then began preparation to be ordained as an Assemblies of God Minister and a Nationally Endorsed Assemblies of God Health Care Chaplain.
Liz has spent many hours with people who are sick, dying and bereaved. She heard over and over about the lack of support, the lack of caring, the lack of understanding that they were receiving. Many were even leaving their faith communities and turning away from God. In 1989 the Lord gave Liz Danielsen a vision for Spiritual Care Support MinistriesSM and a Ministry Center where people who were sick, dying and bereaved would get the support they needed. There they would be given a Biblical perspective, finding out how God could fit into their journey of illness and grief. It would also be a ministry that would equip others to effectively minister. On March 5, 2004 SCSM incorporated. On May first, the doors to the Center opened at 76 West Shirley Avenue, Warrenton, Virginia. On September 17 and 18, the official Ribbon Cutting and Open House were celebrated - the fulfillment of a promise, the realization of a dream.
